Trump: We Will Hit Iran Hard; Islamic Republic Leaders Must Be Tried for Crimes Against Humanity

Donald Trump announced Monday that the U.S. will deliver a strong response to Sunday night’s Islamic Republic attacks on American forces in Jordan, saying “we will hit them very hard. The response is coming.” In a Truth Social post, he also called for the trial of Islamic Republic leaders for “war crimes against humanity,” writing that Iran is officially a defeated country with no navy, no air force, no national currency, and inflation reaching 300%.

Earlier, the U.S. struck Larak Island near the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday night, with CENTCOM saying the target was IRGC mine-laying forces posing an imminent threat to the strait. The IRGC confirmed the strike caused casualties and vowed a response. Hours later, Iranian media reported missile and drone attacks on two bases in Jordan and one in the UAE, which the UAE denied. Trump also hinted at possible talks, saying Iran is eager to meet but expressing doubt over whether a deal could be reached. The escalation comes as the U.S. has resumed its naval blockade of Iran since July 14 and the Treasury Department has launched an “economic expulsion” operation targeting the Islamic Republic’s financial lifelines.
